National Workplace Inspector Training and Development Reference Group

The National Workplace Inspector Training and Development Reference Group (NWITDRG) share, develop and benchmark resources for training. Professional development of Inspectors is undertaken to support agreed national Inspector competencies, technical skills, knowledge and emerging issues, aligned to the National OHS Strategy. The group achieves this by:

  • Supporting the implementation of the workplace health and safety Chief Inspectors’ Agreement in relation to national inspector competency standards;
  • Identifying, analysing and formulating strategies to meet the training needs of Inspectors to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to facilitate improvement in workplace OHS, in line with the National OHS Strategy 2002–2012;
  • Developing resources and strategies to support the National Skills Action Plan through the NWITDRG bi–annual National Forums;
  • Workshopping current issues, trends and future directions in order to ensure best practice in training, assessment and professional development of Inspectors;
  • Sharing information and resources to support harmonisation and achieve national consistency and cost effective outcomes; and
  • Adjusting priorities in line with HWSA objectives.
