Chair

The Chair of HWSA chairs meetings and oversees the management and administration of the HWSA Secretariat. The position of Chair revolves amongst jurisdictions with the Chair elected by HWSA members. The role of the National Chair is currently held by WorkCover New South Wales.

National Secretariat

The National Secretariat facilitates the coordination, planning and reporting of the activities of the HWSA and communication amongst the jurisdictions. The National Secretariat is accountable to all members of HWSA. All external communication by the Secretariat requires prior approval by the members of HWSA or in urgent situations the Chair.

The responsibility for the Secretariat revolves among the jurisdictions. Currently the Secretariat sits with WorkCover NSW.

National Working Groups

The HWSA may direct or delegate certain initiatives for progression by a working group comprising representatives from each jurisdiction. Working groups develop a project plan including an outline of activities, a timetable and a communication strategy for approval by HWSA, prior to commencement of activities. The working groups provide regular reports to HWSA.

Proceedings of the HWSA

HWSA meets four times a year, generally on a three-monthly basis to review, approve and direct the activities of the Secretariat and working groups. Minutes of each meeting are maintained and circulated by the Secretariat and approved by all members at the following meeting.

Resources

Costs of administrative support and staffing of the National Secretariat are the responsibility of the jurisdiction from which the Secretariat is based. The HWSA as a body has no budget. Funding required for HWSA initiatives is contributed on a pro-rata basis by the jurisdictions.
